The Dynamics of Neptune Trojan: I. the Inclined Orbits

چکیده
The stability of Trojan type orbits around Neptune is studied. As the first part of our investigation, we present in this paper a global view of the stability of Trojans on inclined orbits. Using the frequency analysis method based on the FFT technique, we construct high resolution dynamical maps on the plane of initial semimajor axis a0 versus inclination i0. These maps show three most stable regions, with i0 in the range of (0◦, 12◦), (22◦, 36◦) and (51◦, 59◦) respectively, where the Trojans are most probably expected to be found. The similarity between the maps for the leading and trailing triangular Lagrange points L4 and L5 confirms the dynamical symmetry between these two points. By computing the power spectrum and the proper frequencies of the Trojan motion, we figure out the mechanisms that trigger chaos in the motion. The Kozai resonance found at high inclination varies the eccentricity and inclination of orbits, while the ν8 secular resonance around i0 ∼ 44 ◦ pumps up the eccentricity. Both mechanisms lead to eccentric orbits and encounters with Uranus that introduce strong perturbation and drive the objects away from the Trojan like orbits. This explains the clearance of Trojan at high inclination (> 60◦) and an unstable gap around 44◦ on the dynamical map. An empirical theory is derived from the numerical results, with which the main secular resonances are located on the initial plane of (a0, i0). The fine structures in the dynamical maps can be explained by these secular resonances.

On the Dynamics of Inclined Neptune’s Trojans
The dynamics of artificial asteroids on the Trojan-like orbits around Neptune is investigated in this paper. We describe the dependence of the orbital stability on the initial semimajor axis a and inclination i by constructing a dynamical map on the (a, i)−plane. Rich details are revealed in the dynamical map, especially a unstable gap at i = 45◦ is determined and the mechanism triggering chaos...

We present in this paper an analysis of the long term stability of Trojan type orbits of both Uranus and Neptune. Employing the Frequency Map Analysis (hereinafter FMA) we measure the diffusion speed in the phase space for a large sample of Trojan orbits with short numerical integrations. High resolution diffusion maps are derived for different values of initial inclination. These maps outline ...

A new guidance scheme for the problem of Low-thrust transfer between inclined orbits is developed within the framework of optimal control theory. The objective of the guidance scheme is to provide the appropriate thrust steering program that will transfer the vehicle from an inclined low earth orbits to the high earth orbits. The presented guidance scheme is determined using Pontryagin’s princi...
متن کاملDynamical Effects of Planetary Migration on Primordial Trojan-type Asteroids
The hypothesis of planetary migration is tested by numerically integrating orbits of Trojan-type asteroids in the gravitational Ðeld of the Sun, the migrating parent planet, and at least one extra migrating planet. A linear model and an exponential model for migration are used. Migration speeds are deÐned by several total migration times for the linear model and by two di†erent timescales for t...
متن کاملHow Long-Lived Are the Hypothetical Trojan Populationsof Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune?
We investigate the possibility that fractions of the primordial populations at the triangular Lagrangian points of Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune have survived to the present and form (as yet unobserved) clusters of bodies coorbiting with these planets. Such leftovers would be analogs of the numerous objects (Trojans) leading and trailing the revolutions of Jupiter around the Sun. We focus on the ...
